Managers and specialists of the Republic of Kazakhstan involved in the organization of analytical work and assessment of the operation of physical protection equipment received training at the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Institute of Rosatom Technical Academy.
The training course on analytical work and internal control in the physical protection system provided the students with insights into the international documents and principles of building a physical protection regime in the country, as well as IAEA recommendations on analytical work in this area.
In the course of practical demonstrations, special attention was paid to verifying the operation of engineering and technical means of physical protection, identifying vulnerabilities in the assessment and access control systems, issues of information protection based on the common practice of information security.
In order to consolidate the knowledge gained, specialists, under the guidance of experts from the Academy, assessed the sufficiency of the available physical protection measures for the hypothetical nuclear facility “Hypotron” and developed a list of compensatory measures in accordance with international conventions and IAEA recommendations.
“The course clearly demonstrates the organisation of work on conducting a vulnerability analysis of a nuclear facility: what stages it consists of, what documents should be referred to, what difficulties may arise during the analysis and how to solve them. The knowledge gained complements our experience in nuclear security, and we will apply it in our work,” said Altynbek Galym, Lead Manager of the Security Department of LLP “Mining Company “Ortalyk”.
