Employees of Rosatom Technical Academy as part of the delegation of Rosatom State Corporation took part in the IAEA International Conference on Nuclear Security: Shaping the Future (ICONS 2024).
The conference brought together more than 2,000 experts from around the world in Vienna to discuss strengthening global nuclear security and addressing the challenges posed by technological advances and emerging risks and threats.
In the framework of the conference, an international youth delegation was formed. The Russian Federation was represented in the delegation by Zhanna Asulyan, a specialist of the International Training and Methodological Centre for Security and Safeguards of Rosatom Technical Academy.
During the conference, representatives of the Academy attended the Ministerial Segment, plenary discussions and participated in the section work. The experience of practice-oriented nuclear security training of Russian and foreign trainees was presented to the conference participants by Egor Bologov, Director of the Department of Industrywide Training of the Academy.
Lev Nikolaev, Head of the Training and Methodological Centre “Secure Information Technologies” of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Institute, was the booth assistant at the ROSATOM’s joint booth.
ROSATOM’s exhibition showcased innovative approaches and achievements in ensuing physical protection of nuclear facilities in accordance with international standards. The exhibition also included information on the Academy’s projects “Virtual Classroom” and “Cyber Testing Area”.

The International Conference on Nuclear Security (ICONS) is the key forum for discussing nuclear security issues. In 2024, ICONS took place for the fourth time, with previous conferences held in 2013, 2016 and 2020.
The ICONS-2024 business programme covered a wide range of technical and scientific topics related to nuclear security: global perspectives on the regulation of small modular reactors, practical applications of artificial intelligence and related risks, protection of infrastructure against cyber attacks, and development of national strategies for managing nuclear security events.
A total of 45 events were held during the Conference. They were organised by Member States, international and other organisations, working groups and communities in cooperation with the IAEA.
