The IAEA International Conference on Nuclear Knowledge Management and Human Resources Development in Vienna brought together about 600 participants from 110 countries, including the representatives of nuclear industry enterprises, research institutes, higher education institutions, and corporate universities. The purpose of the event was to review global practices and solutions for supporting safe and sustainable nuclear power programmes.
As Tatiana Terentyeva, Deputy Director General for Human Resources of ROSATOM, noted in her speech at the Conference session, Russian nuclear industry impacts the people’s lives not only in our country, but also in 60 countries of its presence, with which it cooperates in the area of nuclear and related technologies.
“The scale and geography of this work require us to pay special attention to the quality of project management and knowledge transfer to our partners,” emphasized Tatiana Terentyeva. “We don’t just construct nuclear power plants – we create entire industries, building the necessary infrastructure for education, scientific research, development and leisure for people working there. As a result, our partners gain access to a new level of technology, culture and quality of life in general.”
Egor Bologov, Director of the Department of Industrywide Training of Rosatom Technical Academy, shared his experience in organizing training events within the framework of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme and practice-oriented training of foreign specialists in nuclear security.
“As the IAEA Collaborating Centre in nuclear knowledge management, Rosatom Technical Academy provides support to the Agency in four programmatic areas: nuclear energy, nuclear safety and security, safeguards, nuclear sciences and applications. Since 2010, more than 3,000 trainees from 88 countries that have embarked on nuclear power programmes have attended joint Russian-IAEA courses on nuclear infrastructure development. As part of the extrabudgetary contribution of the Russian Federation to the IAEA Nuclear Security Fund, training courses on nuclear security are conducted.They combine advanced theoretical basics of physical protection and practical training based on unique testing areas and laboratories of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Institute of Rosatom Technical Academy,” said Egor Bologov.
At the conference, Technical Academy’s specialists Natalia Naumchenko and Daria Artemova presented a poster report on the topic “Activities of Rosatom Technical Academy on the Development, Implementation and Methodological Support of Preserving Critical Knowledge in Nuclear Industry”. The report presented the basic aspects of the project, the history of approach development and the tools used in working with critical knowledge holders.

For successful implementation of those programmes, managers at all levels shall provide and maintain a culture of leadership, promote safety culture and act in compliance with an integrated management system.

The Academy provides professional retraining of managers and specialists of nuclear power engineering and nuclear industry, certification of personnel, as well as scientific and methodological support to ROSATOM organisations in the field of ensuring safe use of atomic energy, supervision, state security, operational and support processes.
