From 12 to 23 September, the Technical Academy hosted a training course "NPP Commissioning and Operational Issues" for trainees from the private subcontractor company SIAC Construction in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The training was conducted as part of the activities of the Rosatom Technical Academy to expand the transfer of Russian nuclear education to the ROSATOM partner countries, as well as to increase the involvement of the local Egyptian industry in the development of the national nuclear power programme.
Vice-Rector-Director of the Department for International Cooperation and International Business Development Pavel Zhuravlev emphasized: “This training course was the first and big practical step in the development of the international network of nuclear education. The need for such training on the part of the Egyptian business clearly shows us the importance of not only the NPP personnel training, but also improving the skills of personnel from the pool of parties interested in projects for the development of national nuclear power programmes”.
During the training, the participants learned general information about the technical and technological features of the VVER-1200 NPP, and also considered the issues of power units commissioning with this type of reactors got acquainted with the design and construction of automated process control systems, with the principles of a safety culture ensuring at NPP and gained understanding of the use of project and engineering management tools in the construction and commissioning of VVER-1200 nuclear power plants.
“The programme of this training course is structured in such a way that SIAC engineers and specialists have a comprehensive understanding of the technological features of VVER-1200 NPP reactors and the work organization on commissioning of this reactor type. The knowledge gained will allow the company to understand what more narrow-profile competencies need to be developed among its employees in the future. If necessary, this pilot training programme can be used to train the personnel of other subcontractors,” said the course leader, project manager Denis Agafonov.
The training course lasted for two weeks, after which the trainees passed the final testing, and they were issued with a certificates of successful completion of the training.
The trainees highly appreciated this course, noting that the knowledge gained became a significant addition to their engineering and technical competencies. In addition, the completed training will allow them to communicate with nuclear industry specialists in the “same language” while developing further cooperation in this direction.

SIAC Construction is a private Egyptian subcontracting business company specializing in the commissioning of electric power facilities and the adjustment of industrial equipment. The training course was held at the request of SIAC representatives to organize and conduct training for the company's employees on the technological features of VVER-1200 NPP and commissioning of these plants. During the period of joint work, the curriculum was developed and agreed upon, and the parameters of the course were determined. In July 2022, the Rosatom Technical Academy and SIAC Construction entered into an agreement to conduct commercial training, which secured joint work in this direction.
