About the course
The course aims to introduce participants to the key energy planning tasks and objectives with the emphasis on nuclear energy planning, to the approaches and modern means of power systems analysis, as well as to the competitiveness assessment procedure of nuclear generation based on SMR in the newcomer country’s energy system.
Eligibility
The course is designed for professors, lecturers, researchers as well as post-graduate students, final year undergraduate students and specialists involved in the initiation or development of nuclear curricula in universities of countries embarking on nuclear programs.
The number of participants is limited, the selection of candidates will be made by the organizers on competitive basis.
The main topics of the course
- The role of nuclear power and renewable energy sources in low-carbon development paths,
- Economics of nuclear power and alternative non-carbon technologies,
- Tasks and objectives of the energy and nuclear energy planning, role of the modelling in the energy planning process,
- Overview of IAEA/INPRO methods and tools for modelling and analysis of nuclear energy systems,
- Technical and economic parameters of existing SMR projects,
- Approaches to assessing the competitiveness of nuclear generation based on SMR in the newcomer country’s energy system (LCOE calculations, modelling exercises with IAEA’s ESST and MESSAGE tools),
- Integration of modules on energy planning and energy modeling in master's degree programs.
The program includes practical sessions, where participants will be asked to complete various exercises and present their results to the audience
The training is free of charge for selected candidates. Upon completion of the course, participants receive a certificate.
